Tom Rhodes Law Firm P.C. We Speak up for Those Who Cannot Speak for Themselves

Announcing the Winners of the Third Annual Respect Contest at HISD

Tom Rhodes Law Firm would like to congratulate the three winners of this year’s art and essay contest about respect among the fifth-grade class at Harlandale Independent School District (HISD). This is the third year that our firm has sponsored this contest.

This competition invites students in the district to submit essays and artwork that illustrates what respect means to them. Our firm selects a first, second, and third place winner for the contests and donates money to each winner, the student’s elementary school, and a charity of the student’s choosing.

The first place winner is a student at Columbia Heights Elementary. His essay, written in Spanish, included a drawing about showing respect to the elderly and to people of color. He selected the Children’s Shelter of San Antonio as his charity.

The second place winner is a student at Rayburn Elementary who drew and wrote about showing respect to hardworking teachers and the custodians who clean up trash and help others. She selected the American Cancer Society as her charity.

A student at Carroll Bell Elementary won the third place prize for his artwork and essay about showing respect to his parents and other adults, your elders, and the people who protect your town, like our police officers. He selected the Make-A-Wish Foundation as his charity.

Congratulations again to our three winners, and to everyone who entered the competition! The awards ceremony will be held on June 5, and we will update this blog with photos from the event. You can read more about the winners, including some quotes from their essays, on HISD’s website here.
