Tom Rhodes Law Firm settles priest sex abuse case with San Antonio Archdiocese, client awarded $180 million judgment against former priest*

On January 7, 2012, in the 224th District Court of Bexar County, Texas, Judge Cathleen Stryker presiding, a default judgment was entered for $180,668,350.00 against Louis White, a former Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. The lawsuit was filed by John Doe 101, who was repeatedly sexually assaulted as a child from 1976 to 1977 while a student, altar server and parishioner at Sacred Heart Church and School in Floresville, Texas. Tom Rhodes Law Firm P.C., along with Merritt & Watson of Dallas and Brendan McBride of San Antonio represented the plaintiff.

John Doe 101 had also named the Archdiocese of San Antonio in the lawsuit. The Archdiocese and John Doe 101 reached an out of court settlement before trial was to start in the 224th District Court. The Archdiocese had defended against the Plaintiff’s allegations and had denied any wrongdoing. To protect the privacy of the victim, the Plaintiff requested the settlement amount be confidential.
