Talcum Powder Lawsuits

Tom Rhodes Law Firm P.C. is now accepting personal injury or wrongful death
cases linked with use of talcum powder products manufactured by Johnson
& Johnson (“Johnson’s Baby Powder”) and Valeant
Pharmaceuticals (“Shower to Shower”). Use of these products
in the genital region has been shown to significantly increase a woman’s
risk of developing ovarian or fallopian tube cancer. Johnson & Johnson
is alleged to have been long aware of these risks and failed to properly
alert consumers by placing a warning label on their products. Now, the
company is facing more than 1,200 lawsuits from injured women and their families.
Talcum Powder Increases Cancer Risk by Up to 40 Percent
Studies as far back as the 1970s have revealed that talc-containing products,
when used in the perineal region for feminine hygiene, can increase a
woman’s risk of developing aggressive ovarian cancer by between
30 and 40 percent. The natural mineral particles can travel into the body
and embed themselves into the lining of the uterus, causing irritation
that could lead to the formation of potentially malignant tumors. Because
this type of cancer may not show symptoms immediately, it may have a chance
to spread to other areas of the body before it is ever diagnosed, making
it a difficult cancer to treat. In some cases, ovarian cancer can be fatal.
Johnson & Johnson has already been ordered to pay $72 million to the
family of a St. Louis woman who died from ovarian cancer, and another
$55 million to a South Dakota survivor of the disease. With so much litigation
still pending, future settlements are likely.
